On the rest of this page we’re going to explain the conditions that we treat and the treatments we use to eliminate back pain as quickly as possible for our patients. Understandably, all of our patients want their back pain resolved as quickly as possible, and our treatments do not disappoint when it comes to a speedy recovery! Before we get to these groundbreaking back pain treatments, let’s first look at the conditions they can be used for.

Primarily, we treat patients with back pain, sciatica and neck pain here at The Mayfair Clinic. We do also treat other conditions that affect these areas, of course, and certainly would never close the door on someone suffering from any neck or back conditions, no matter where the symptoms are located. Some of the conditions that we treat include:

Slipped Disc

Injury or damage to the disc which puts pressure on the nerves in your lower back either directly, or because of excessive inflammation.

Sciatica

Injury or damage to the lower spine which puts pressure on the roots of the sciatica nerve in your lower back either directly, or because of excessive inflammation.

Herniated Discs

Injury or damage to the disc which puts pressure on the nerves in your lower back either directly, or because of excessive inflammation. Herniated discs are a more severe form of disc injury compared with slipped discs.

Degenerative Disc Disease

Wear and tear of the disc and vertebra, bone spurs can also be present causing inflammation of the nerve, normally this is the cause of more chronic lower back pain.

Spinal Stenosis

Narrowing of the spinal canal, reducing the amount of free space for the spinal cord or spinal nerves. This can be from a variety of causes, sometimes damage to the discs, other times, arthritis in your spine can cause spinal stenosis.

Spondylolisthesis

A break of the lower spine causing a slippage of one vertebra forwards or backward, this is more severe & less common, but patients with these issues have reported that the day to day pain they experience has reduced significantly.

Your first back pain consultation

During your first consultation at The Mayfair Clinic, we delve deep into the heart of your condition and find out everything about it. We will typically start by asking you how you think the condition came about. Of course, with back and neck pain, it can be difficult to pinpoint when and why it started, but any information that you can provide can help us determine the root cause of the problem.

After the lovely little chat about your symptoms and what may have caused the back or neck pain, we will perform a physical exam. The physical exam helps us narrow down the search for the condition. We may, for example, use other symptoms as a map to follow towards your spine. This is why the discussion about your symptoms is done before the physical exam.

Once we have a rough area where a condition may be, we will narrow this down with more specific testing. This may include sending you for imaging in some cases, however imaging normally confirms our diagnosis. We work with the best imaging companies in London to ensure our patient’s x-rays or MRI’s are as detailed as possible. This helps us to perfectly pinpoint what’s causing your symptoms and create the ultimate treatment plan for it.

During your initial consultation, we will progress onto treatment, after examination and diagnosis. We will have a great understanding of your back problem as well as what needs to be done to treat it effectively. Your back pain specialist will then explain what the problem is and why we have chosen the treatments recommended. For most, we start treatment immediately and, in all but the most chronic of cases, relief should be felt during or in the minutes to hours immediately after the treatment.

When Should You See A Back Specialist?

If your symptoms are severe or getting worse, speak with us about your pain. We can usually diagnose the cause quickly. To diagnose this, we may need to perform further tests like x rays or MRI scans to see what the cause is. However, during this time, you will be given treatments to help with your symptoms.

The tailor-made treatment plans that we offer our patients make us the best back specialist in London. We can provide these types of treatment plans because of the non-invasive technologies we use. Unlike other back specialists in London, we do not use any of the “clicks and pops” manipulations of old. This allows us to completely style our treatment plans as we have no restrictions on the areas that we can offer these treatments. In short, we can provide relief from the symptoms (no matter where they are) and treat the underlying cause at the same time.

An example would be for the acutely painful patient. In years gone by, using older hands-on techniques if a patient was in tremendous pain, the sort that disables them from even moving around the room, treatment was near impossible. This was because treatment would involve movement which was too traumatic for a patient like this to bare. With our laser treatment for example, we are able to effectively reduce pain without the need for them to move at all, which can be a “life saver” for such cases. Typically we would later move on to some of our other techniques as their pain levels quickly fall.
