Low Back Pain and Sciatica

Figuring out how to sleep with lower back pain and sciatica can be a nightmare.  Often you’ll struggle to find a comfortable position, this is a big problem as without effective sleep your body will struggle to heal effectively. But there are a few ways that could help you in sleeping soundly whether you’re suffering from lower back pain or sciatica.

Tips for How To Sleep Well

A lot of people find sleeping on the floor flat very helpful but in reality, this isn’t helpful in the long term. This is a great strategy for a short term relief. If the need to sleep on the floor just to get a good nights sleep is still there after a couple of nights you need to go and see someone.

Another good strategy for sleeping well in spite of sciatica and lower back pain is to lie on your side with a pillow between your knees. This neutralizes the spine and is often really helpful at providing a good, restful sleep.

Finally, try sleeping on your back with a few pillows piled up underneath your knees, this elevates the legs and tucks the pelvic bones round. This normally feels quite pleasant and will help you drift off.

Sleeping with Lower Back Pain & Sciatica

Ultimately if you are struggling with not being able to sleep well and pain waking you in the middle of the night you have a problem.  This problem is causing inflammation building up through the day to irritate your low back when it finally gets a chance to rest at night.
